What does it mean to be a part of the worship team?
At Living Water Church, the act of worship through song serves as a crucial part of this church and a biblical function of THE Church. This is a time we use some of God’s amazing musical, artistic and technological creations to turn our focus toward our Creator for those who come through our doors or are watching online. It is a way to convey the Gospel message in a creative way using the gifts God has given us.
While being a part of a worship team will provide moments of fun and enjoyment that comes with playing music with other musicians, being a part of the worship team is not a role that should be taken lightly. The fact that God can use what we do in some small way to accomplish His purpose, build up and equip believers and to “seek and save the lost” is a privilege...one that should be taken with great respect and humility.
While people will obviously get to witness your God-given musical abilities as part of the worship team, this is not a platform for showcasing individual talents. It is a place of service to the congregation. We are looking for trustworthy, team-minded people who will take their commitment seriously. Maintaining a humble, teachable attitude is very important.
Why do we have auditions?
We have a vision for continuously increasing our worship ministry here at Living Water Church. Auditions are a very practical tool for evaluating the skills and heart of people who feel called to serve on a worship team.
We promise it will never be like The Voice! We want to create a “dread-free” atmosphere for our audition process as much as possible. At the same time, we value honesty, and we want to encourage the pursuit of skill in the music we present to the Lord.
If you have a heart to lead others into meaningful worship, and you feel you are skilled with your voice or musical instrument, we would love to get to know you! Please read the expectations and requirements for participation on the worship team below and fill out the questions as completely as possible. We will be getting in touch with you about scheduling an audition.
Basic requirements for participation on the worship team:
Members of the Living Water Church worship team should have completed our 101-membership class. If you have not completed the membership class upon acceptance to the team, you should make it a priority to complete a 101 course as soon as it is offered. You should be in agreement with our church’s beliefs and vision.
Previous experience on a worship team or in a band can be helpful but is not required. While there are similar principles used in most live music situations, every band or team experience is different. Be prepared to learn new ways of doing things even as we follow standard practices.
Age requirement for participation on the worship team:
All members of the worship team must have graduated high school to serve. Any vocalist or musician in middle school or high school is encouraged to serve on the Youth Praise Band before they can serve on the main worship team.
Expectations for participation on the worship team:
The time requirement for worship team members is approximately 8 hours per week when they are scheduled for the weekend services. This time frame does not include personal practice time. Included in the time requirements are Thursday evening rehearsals (7:30pm-9:00pm), Sunday morning rehearsals (7:15am-8:30am) and Sunday morning services (8:30am-1:00pm).
We make every attempt to not over-schedule team members. You do not have to play every week to be on the worship team. There may be weeks where you are not scheduled.
We expect all individuals to use our service planning tool www.planningcenteronline.com for scheduling. Planning Center has various tools you can use:
Members of the worship team are some of the most visible members of Living Water Church within our church and out in the community. We are also individuals who are using the talents and abilities that God has given us in order to use music to convey the nature of God and the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
While no one on the worship team explicitly has the role of “teacher,” God is still using what we do to encourage current believers and teach young believers and non-believers about Him. James 3:1 says, “we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” Because of this, we believe members of Living Water Church’s worship team should hold themselves to a higher standard and be an example to others.
In order to foster your own spiritual growth, increase fellowship with other believers and support pastoral leadership, we believe it is important to sit through at least one sermon during days you are performing with the worship team and attend church on Sundays yourself or with your family when you are not on stage. We know there will be times when members cannot attend church due to planned activities, unforeseen circumstances or emergencies. That being said, regular and/or frequent church attendance is an expectation for every worship team member.
